I HAVE MOVED...AGAIN

Well by now it's pretty much inevitable that I would move the blog again. For a few years now, I've been debating between blogspot and wordpress to see which one I would like better. Mostly, for me, it's been about the layout and appearance because most of what I have on the blog is all about the look. Both blogspot and wordpress have a pretty horrible theme selection. I have always struggled with the image size and I've tried to do some custom HTML but I kinda suck at it.

So earlier tonight, I was looking through my tumblr and all of the AMAZINGLY done themes, wishing that blogspot or wordpress could have something even close to the range that tumblr has and then I had an idea: what if I just move everything over to tumblr? It was kind of reckless but I needed a change.

Over the next few days I will be playing around with the layout that I've chosen there and everything but mostly, I'm just happy to have a clean and pretty blog. HOPEFULLY this will be the last move...for a while.

It's been a while since I've made a blog post but since I have a little time on my hands, I decided to put some pictures from the past few weeks up.

Once Every Two Years

Last weekend, my aunt, uncle and two cousins came to visit us from Minnesota. I took...a lot of pictures while they were here. The first day, we spent a lot of time around Lake Merritt in Oakland. We watched some old guys playing croquet, we chased geese, we watched a drummer, and my cousin had a staring contest with a squirrell.

Now for the San Francisco pictures. We walked to Yerba Buena park for most of the time. We only see our cousins about once every two years so it was great to see them again. During the rest of the weekend, we played a lot of "Catch Phrase," went to the Spirit store in Alameda, and watched Paul Blart Mall Cop. For the second time. Ok here are the pictures:

Remember the one where I said that this blog will have "minimal or no writing" on it? Well I take it back. I realized that my flickr can serve as my "photoblog" and this one will be more personal. Yes, it will still have pictures but it will be like diary-entry-things. For starters, I'll talk about my new picture-taking device: THE IPOD 4G! It's amazing. I love it. Nuff sed.

When I originally bought it, I thought it had a 5 megapixel camera just like the iphone 4... BUUT I then learned that the camera is actually 0.69 MEGAPIXELS. yeah. I was dissapointed but that brought my expectations down very low so I was then pleasantly surprised at how the pictures turned out. Here are some I took this week:

Hello everyone,

Ok so these past weeks have been pretty hectic (I really do sound like a broken record) but...school. Nuff said. I will be continuing with the last two Canada posts later but this was too amazing to wait. So on Saturday, our contractor brought my parents, my sister, me and Willyce to see another project he's been working on for 5 years. There are a lot of pictures in this one, just to warn you.

(I've been experimenting with the grainy effect on pictures to make them look older/SLR-ish)

This was in every room, linked up to the speakers built into the ceiling.

Izzy was in just as much shock as I was.

Ok the next (flash) pictures were really ugly but there wasn't enough light down there not to use flash. I did the best with editing I could because it's a really great room but...bear with me.

Of course there was a Sauna.

Sorry for the lack of posts recently (I have said that way too many times) but school just started and it's a bit overwhelming. My blog is really backed up; I have the rest of the Canada pics, pictures of Zelda (John and Delia's new PUPPY!!!!!), pictures from camping in Big Basin and pictures of the kitchen walls (If you've been reading my tweets you'd know what I'm talking about)

But anyways, enough about that. Here's more Canada for you.

This was the view from my bed. You can barely see it in the picture but just past the trees is the ocean.

The house that I stayed at was niiiiiiiiice.

This is Coby, Beth and Stephen's 12 year-old border collie. There is a great, heartwarming story about him in the New Yorker somewhere.

These trees were ALL OVER the Island, I forget what they are called but they are amazing.

Tankers would pass by all the time and sometimes sound their horns. It was cool/annoying.

This is East Point, the most famous place on the Island and officially (not making this up) THE BEST PLACE TO SEE ORCA WHALES IN THE WORLD.

I cannot tell you how many of these we saw. Not because it's a secret but because there were a lot.

What I thought was sand was actually crushed up shells.

Ok next "installation" of Canada pictures coming soon! Now I have to go write an outline on the Development of Agriculture...ahh school how I have(n't) missed you.

CANADA

This summer I was lucky enough to travel to Canada with my friend and her mom. My friend's aunt and uncle have a house on one of the Gulf Islands called Saturna. I stayed there for a week and it was amazing.

The first thing I noticed that was different in Canada was the fact that everyone and everything was much more polite than in the US. Even the signs around Vancouver would usually have a "please" before a "warning" or "caution."

We got off of the plane at around 3PM and walked through the surprisingly quiet Vancouver airport. All around were intricate carved wood sculptures and water fixtures that you would expect to see in a museum but instead was surrounding escalators and Hudson Newses.

This being (sadly) only my second time out of the country (Mexico in eighth grade) I was still a bit nervous at customs and immigration but the lady wearing the bulletproof vest joked around about our passport pictures and was extremely nice. She also said "eh" a lot.

We waited for the bus that would take us to the ferry landing for about forty five minutes but when it finally came, we got there pretty fast. Some parts of Vancouver reminded me of Portland, Oregon.

Once on the ferry I started to take many pictures. Here are a few:

Another thing that was different in Canada was that everything was in french and in english...as opposed to here where everything is in spanish and english.

This picture was an accidental self portrait which I'm using as my header now. I'm not sure if I'll keep it but...

I didn't know it before this trip but one of the most magical things is to ride a ferry during sunset. At the front of the boat. In Canada. Listening to your ipod.

JOHN'S PARTY

A week and a half ago, John hosted his annual party (with bellydancers and everything). It was super fun and I took so many pictures. Here are just a few.

One collaborative idea (I'm not exactly sure how it got started) was that we would hang chicken feet from the tree in John's backyard. The downside: bugs, the smell and the fact that most people thought they were fake.

A tradition of this party is to have belly dancers come and do a performance on the deck. It's always been...interesting. This year we had new dancers and they were surprisingly good.

NOTE: I got back from Canada yesterday. I will try to put up the pictures from that trip up soon but I took over 900 pictures and school starts on monday so...I don't exactly know how much time I'll have.

Okay enough about the movies. This is a website that I found recently and since then I have spent WAY too much time browsing: Beautiful Life

It has all sorts of cool things but take some time and look around. The industrial design part is my favorite mostly because it reminds me of a show at Art Center that I saw. Here are some pictures I got off of the website:

Randomness of the Week 7/2/10

Each week I realize I have tons of things on my desktop or in different folders that I have accumulated and are just sitting there. So I decided that each friday (hopefully I'll remember) I'll just make a post that's just all of these things (the interesting ones) jumbled into one. THIS IS AN EXPERIMENT. Most likely I'll probably fail :)

First off: They're making a "Paranormal Activity 2"

It looks like there's babies in it or something. I still haven't seen the first one yet (not because I'm scared to, but because...I never got around to it)

And another movie thing: "Pirana 3D"

When I first heard about this I laughed. Actually, Adam Scott was on CDR and was talking about it during the plugs section (you probably have NO idea what I'm talking about but bear with me) and I think they made some jokes about it haha.

Let's see what else... oh here's one of my pictures I took in Cambria in out hotel room:

CAMBRIA TRIP: PART 4

Back to these tedious posts of pictures that are almost two weeks old...whatever I'll just get through these as fast as I can. A bit of background: After we went through Hearst Castle we went across the street (more like highway?) to the pier that was pretty nice. The beaches there are weird because it's like: mountains, mountains, grass, sand, water. Maybe it's just me...

CAMBRIA TRIP: PART 3

Heloooooooooooooooooooooooooo peoples,
Here is the third installment of "el viaje a Cambria." These are the actual pictures of Hearst Castle (YAY finally) I went wayy overboard with the editing in some of these put here they are anyways.

This was taken from the visitor's center.

This pool is craazzyyy. All of the marble was imported from Italy or something.

The tour guide said that William Hearst, at one point, owned all of the land, as far as you could see from the castle.

We didn't go through the front door because this wasn't the "main tour" (which involved watching a video and my mom decided that we didn't want to see that so we went into a completely different tour and I'm ranting so I'll stop, you're welcome.)

Ok so this was weird: there were random sarcophaguses (HAH spelled that right on the first try too!) were just like randomly placed around the castle. This was the engraving on one of them.

Our tour guide reminded me of a mix between David Cross and my neighbor John. He was cool.

The library was OFF DA HOOK. It was huuge. And there was a fireplace that you could walk in.

CAMBRIA TRIP: PART 2

Something looks different...

Yes, I changed the theme. I really hated the old one which was sorta "confined" to the blogspot templates. It was inspired by Spencer Tweedy's blog and I looooove it. It was kinda weird to make the change but I think it turned out ok and I got to experiment with HTML which was a tad intimidating...

Anyways, as promised, the next installment of pictures from the trip to Cambria: FOOD
I took a lot of pictures of food this trip and most of it was candy because we spent 70% of the trip in the most AMAZING candy store...I forget what it was called but I remember it was right next to the yarn store (smiley face).

There was so much more, like 2 other counters of this stuff. (I might be getting a little too excited over candy but whatever)

CAMBRIA TRIP: PART 1

Hello peoples of the world-wide web! If you have been reading my previous posts and/or tweets, you will know what this post and the posts to come are about. If you haven't been reading those, go and read them now. I'll wait. Ok so the Cambria trip was really fun, the highlight of it being Hearst Castle. I don't have those pictures today, I'm still sorting them out ANNDDDD since I'm going chronologically or whatever I'll post the things that happened first. On the first day we drove and drove and drove and drove and we stopped at this winery right before we went to our hotel. It was called "Peachy Creme" or something. I took some pictures (not as interesting as the ones to come) but here they are anyways:

Meat, cheese and...BEER? At a winery? Oh wait, it says soda...my bad.

I might actually post more pictures that have been taken from around the house...BUT ALSO: I have pictures of today's breakfast (that I can't stop thinking about). Ok so to start off: some pictures that I already uploaded onto my flickr thang that people seemed to like:

1) The old chair in the living room that I really want to throw away.
2) Izzy and Scott (John and Delia's cat)
3) One of the dreaded leaf/pictures AAHH!
4) And my pyromaniac side has started to emerge :)

Alright so next thing: BREAKFAST! Me, my mom and my sister went to the Can't Fail Cafe.

It was the second time I had gone there; the first was with Willyce. Both times the food was AMAZING. Oh, by the way it's owned by GREEN DAY. Yes, GREEN DAY. At least it used to be. I'm not sure if it still is. Here are pictures of our foodzz:

1) My french toast with scrambled eggs and bacon (there were originally two pieces of bacon but I ate one)
2) Izzy's hash browns with cheese and eggs also with bacon.
3) And mom's hash browns with cheese and some sort of egg thing and bacon.

The food there is so good. Actually, any breakfast food is. I don't see why we eat anything else.

I remember when I was younger (like up until I turned...9? 10?) every Sunday morning we would go to the Jack London Square farmers market. That was my favorite thing to do for the longest time...mostly because they had the BEST kettle corn.

Ok so to start off this post I am just gonna put out there that there are NO PICTURES in this one. Sorry. I'm just telling the peoples who read this that I'M SORRY for not posting so often (even though it's summer and I don't have anything else to do) and I will try to make more posts (interesting ones) soon. Ok so now on to the good stuff that you (probably don't) need to know. So there are going to be some changes with the blog such as...

FIRST THING: I have pretty much shot-the-crap out of my house, backyard, Izzy, and basically anything else that I've posted pictures of on here so I guess what I'm trying to say is that I am going to start taking pictures of more...interesting things and if I don't have any material to post when the time comes to make a post I'll just ramble on like I am doing here.

Ok so this isn't really long but here are some pictures of my house at the moment.

One more thing: If you are ever in the Bay Area you MUST go to Bakesale Betty and get their AMAZING fried chicken sandwich. The line sometimes goes down the whole block so get there pretty early. The sandwich itself is somewhere around 2,000 calories but definitely worth it. Here's a crappy picture that I took of it today with my phone:

OAKLAND MARATHON

Ok so this is a little late considering that this was last sunday. But anyways it was well worth waking up at 7 on a sunday morning to watch these guys. By the time they got to us, they had just ran a little more than 2 miles in a 28.2 mile marathon. I think I would die if I did that. There were some really cool and interesting people running. One guy was even doing it barefoot. The lighting was great so I took A LOT of pictures. Here are just a few:

Well I haven't posted very much recently for a couple of reasons:

1. School
A very original excuse, I know, but it's true that school takes up a lot of time.

2.........Ok I only have one excuse but I promise that I'll start posting more regularly once spring break starts.
